Bachelor of Arts in Translation
Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in Translation aims to graduate ethical and competent translators who demonstrate integrity and professionalism, understand similarities and differences in self-expression among speakers of English and Arabic, and apply diverse styles of communication suitable for various markets.
Program Objectives
The B.A. in Translation seeks to:
- provide students with a good command of translation theories and methodologies,
- equip students with research and critical thinking skills to produce accurate research-based translations that address textual demands,
- graduate ethical and professional translators capable of translating different cultural, economic, legal, and technical genres of texts, and
- graduate students who are ready to pursue postgraduate studies and/or assume translation jobs in reputable institutions or organizations.
Learning Outcomes
Graduates with a B.A. in Translation should be able to:
- compare translation theories and methodologies (SO1),
- generate ethical and professional translations of different cultural, economic, legal, and technical genres of texts (SO2),
- apply technological tools to facilitate translation (SO3),
- determine the author’s voice, style, and culture in the target text (SO4), and
- apply ethical and professional translation strategies in real life settings (SO5).
