Minor in Sociology

Overview

The Minor in Sociology prepares students for careers in a number of areas requiring a strong sociological understanding of contemporary society. Graduates may find work in the fields of social services, community and non-profit organizations, the business sector, and tertiary education. The minor also prepares interested students for further graduate study.

Mission

The Minor in Sociology aims at advancing a strong sociological understanding of contemporary society, addressing its complexities and the individual’s place within society.

Program Objectives

The Minor in Sociology aims to:

  1. Impart interdisciplinary competencies,
  2. Foster critical thinking about sociological theories and social issues, and
  3. Develop students’ professional and practical skills to assist them in obtaining jobs in the local, regional and international markets.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Minor in Sociology, students should be able to:

  1. Describe the basic facts, concepts, and theories pertaining to sociology,
  2. Ask relevant research questions pertaining to sociology, and
  3. Analyze the interrelationship among the sociological, political and psychological dimensions of sociology.

Curriculum

A total of 18 credits are required to graduate with a Minor in Sociology, distributed as follows:
