M.D. Admission Requirements

The LAU Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine is committed to admitting students who demonstrate academic excellence and a strong commitment to the values of the medical profession and to our school’s mission.

Our program nurtures and develops these values and the competencies set in our curriculum. Our alumni have had great success in securing residency training positions and other postgraduate pursuits, and now carry on our school’s mission in Lebanon and around the globe.

Requirements

The class starting Med I in August 2025 should expect graduation with an M.D. in 2029.

Admission to the school of medicine normally is based on a composite evaluation of the following criteria:

  • Academic Performance: We expect prospective students to have a strong undergraduate GPA. Additionally, applicants must have completed specific prerequisite courses (See below prerequisite courses)
  • Competitive Score on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).  The MCAT may be taken twice only; the highest grades will be considered. (See below MCAT notice)
  • Holistic assessment of the candidate extracurricular activities, research experience, and interview: We value applicants who have engaged in a diverse range of activities beyond their academic pursuits. This includes hands-on clinical experience, involvement in research projects, volunteer work, leadership positions, and other pertinent experiences. Students with satisfactory academic achievements and MCAT scores will be selected for an interview.

    Pre-requisite Courses

- Courses in Biology which includes at least one Lab (non-freshman level courses)

- Courses in Chemistry which includes at least 3 credits in organic chemistry and 1 Lab (non-freshman level courses)

- Courses in Physics which includes at least one Lab (non-freshman level courses)

MCAT Notice

Due to the cancellation of fall MCAT sessions in Lebanon, we and other universities in Lebanon have decided to explore alternative solutions with the administrators of the MCAT. Negotiations are ongoing, and any decisions will be communicated as soon as possible. Otherwise, we may rely on academic performance and holistic assessment, including the interview, to select applicants for the medical school.

We will still require the MCAT for applicants from outside Lebanon. For candidates in Lebanon whose academic performance is not as strong as desired, a strong MCAT performance may be considered advantageous.
