PTE566 Unconventional Oil and Gas Exploration

Overview of unconventional oil (heavy oil, oil shale) and gas resources (tight gas sands, coal bed methane, shale gas and natural gas hydrates). Description and analysis of UOR & UGR geological aspects, reservoir characterization; drilling, completion and stimulation methods; appraisal and well testing; production technologies, recovery process design, transportation marketing; economics, and environmental issues.

Prerequisites: Fifth-year standing and consent of Instructor.
