Bachelor of Science in Education

Mission

The BS in Education program at LAU strives for excellence in the preparation of qualified educators, capable of serving as competent practitioners and leaders, who adhere to professionalism, support equity and social justice, and commit to constantly innovating their practices through research, scholarship and on-going personal and professional development.

Program Objectives

BS in Education graduates will:
 

  1. Develop knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to be competent educational practitioners
  2. Demonstrate commitment to the ethics, principles, and requirements of the profession
  3. Design effective learning situations and motivate learners’ construction of knowledge, drawing on up-to-date educational theories, approaches, and technologies.
  4. Demonstrate commitment to equity and social justice
  5. Develop abilities and dispositions needed for the advancement of their practices through research and scholarship
  6. Demonstrate commitment for on-going personal and professional development

Learning Outcomes

Upon the completion of the program students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate pedagogical content knowledge
  2. Design effective learning situations for learners to develop knowledge, thinking skills and dispositions
  3. Identify, evaluate and integrate suitable technologies to enhance learning
  4. Engage in research that improves their practice
  5. Utilize professionally a variety of communication techniques suitable for learners in a non-native language, including written, verbal, nonverbal and media-based communication.
  6. Design environments that encourage inclusive learning
  7. Appreciate teaching as a scholarly endeavor
  8. Make decisions related to curriculum, instruction and evaluation
  9. Collaborate effectively with stakeholders
  10. Practice reflective and self-directed learning that focuses on continuous professional development
  11. Demonstrate commitment to ethical and legal responsibilities
