Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency

This is a joint PGY1 pharmacy residency program between the Lebanese American University (LAU) School of Pharmacy and LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital and is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).

This program provides pharmacy residents with advanced hands-on experiences in clinical practice, education, and research, along with building professional, management and leadership skills. Examples of rotations include internal medicine, critical care, oncology, cardiology, anticoagulation, infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, sterile compounding, health system pharmacy administration and endocrinology. Additional opportunities exist in the required participation in research and contributing to pharmacy students’ education.

Mission

The PGY1 pharmacy residency program will prepare pharmacists with advanced competencies in clinical practice, education, research and practice management, combined with the necessary professional and leadership skills to impact the profession of pharmacy.

Vision

The PGY1 pharmacy residency program will be recognized nationally and regionally for its excellence in developing highly-competent pharmacy professionals as appraised by their practice skills, scholarly pursuits and leadership in pharmacy.

Site Special Features

Centrally located in the cosmopolitan district of Achrafieh in Beirut, Lebanon, LAU Medical Center-RH is a private LAU-owned and operated teaching hospital. LAU Medical Center-RH currently has 197 beds with an ongoing expansion plan. It is the primary teaching hospital for LAU’s schools of Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing. Pharmacy practice faculty and preceptors at LAU Medical Center-RH are actively engaged in distinct interprofessional collaborative practice model. The LAU School of Pharmacy is nationally and regionally recognized for its progressive pharmacy education, practice and research programs, and community engagement initiatives.

Applying

Requirements

PharmD degree (ACPE-accredited); licensed/eligibility for pharmacist licensure in Lebanon, Lebanese citizenship, and interview.

Application material: letter of intent (personal/professional goals and interest in program), curriculum vitae, three letters of reference completed via PhoORCAS (at least one letter from a clinical preceptor), and academic transcripts. All application material will be accepted via PhORCAS.
