Minor in Advertising and Public Relations

Overview

The Minor in Advertising & Public Relations introduces students from any major to the profession and practice of advertising and public relations. It offers students basic competencies and skills that help them discern the role of communication in society and understand the main concepts, methods, and approaches used in the advertising and public relations professions.

Program Objectives

The Minor in Advertising & Public Relations seeks to help students:

  1. understand advertising and public relations practices, methods and concepts,
  2. garner basic conceptual and practical understanding of careers in communication, and
  3. create ethical and civically-engaged communication content that targets diverse audiences in an increasingly multicultural and global environment.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Minor in Advertising & Public Relations, students should be able to:

  1. develop and implement a basic advertising campaign,
  2. develop and implement a basic public relations campaign,
  3. conduct preliminary market research,
  4. develop and integrate basic creative and design components of advertising and public relations, and
  5. critically analyze advertising and public relations campaigns and their impact on society.

Curriculum

The Minor in Advertising & Public Relations is open to all majors. Students must complete a total of 18 credits, distributed as follows:
