Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management

Mission

The B.S. in Hospitality and Tourism Management aims at developing ethically and socially responsible professionals for the hospitality and tourism industry in Lebanon and the region through emphasizing the theoretical aspect of coursework and experiential learning, as well as student civic and community engagement.

Program Objectives

The B.S. in Hospitality & Tourism Management seeks to:

  1. communicate to students the essential knowledge of hospitality, tourism and related business disciplines,
  2. equip students with problem solving capabilities,
  3. nurture in students an awareness of social and ethical issues, and
  4. arm students with effective written and oral communication.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the B.S. in Hospitality & Tourism Management, graduates will:

  • demonstrate essential knowledge in the field of hospitality, tourism management, and related disciplines,
  • demonstrate essential skills acquired through use of hospitality technologies/software, materials, and equipment that closely simulate the workplace,
  • identify and evaluate the challenges of operating a hospitality and tourism business,
  • examine the social and ethical issues involved in a hospitality and tourism industry specific case,
  • deliver an effective oral presentation, and
  • demonstrate effective written communication.

Curriculum

To obtain the BS in Hospitality and Tourism Management degree, the student should complete a total of 92 credits composed of:

  • Business Core Requirements (18 credits)
  • Hospitality and Tourism Core Requirements (28 credits)
  • Hospitality and Tourism Electives (9 credits)
  • Liberal Arts and Sciences (30 credits)
  •            Core LAS Requirements (6 credits: ENG202 and COM203)
  •            Arts & Humanities Liberal arts (3 credits)
  •            Social Sciences Liberal arts (3 credits: ECO 201 or 202)
  •            Natural Sciences & Mathematics Liberal arts (3 credits)
  •            Liberal Arts Electives (15 credits)
  • Free Electives (7 credits)

All hospitality students are required to complete 550 hours of internship work. The internship may be completed at selected local and international hospitality firms.

The hospitality and tourism industry is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world (10% of the world’s GDP) and employs around 8% of the global workforce (UNWTO, 2015). In Lebanon, the hospitality and tourism industry currently accounts for 21.1% of Lebanon’s GDP and provides abundant employment opportunities in various types of tourism activities.
