PSY411 The Psychology of Attachment
[3–0, 3 cr.]
This course aims at providing an overview of the basics of Bowlby’s attachment theory as well as the relationship between mentalizing capacities and attachment classification. Topics covered include the basic concepts of attachment theory, measures of attachment, development of attachment across the lifespan, and an overview of some attachment disorders. In addition, the concept of mentalizing will be presented and discussed with a focus on the relationship between parental sensitivity, attachment, and healthy functioning, with a focus on the importance of adapting the theories to the culture and community.
Pre-requisite: PSY201 Introduction to Psychology, Senior Standing
