FEMXXX Social Entrepreneurship

[3–0, 3 cr.]

This course explores the principles and practices of social entrepreneurship, focusing on how entrepreneurial approaches can address social, cultural, and environmental challenges within complex legal and political landscapes. Students will examine how laws, regulations, and public policies influence the creation and operation of social enterprises, as well as the political ramifications of driving systemic change. Through a project-based approach, students will learn to identify opportunities for creating social value, engage in designing innovative solutions that comply with legal frameworks, navigate regulatory environments, and develop sustainable business models that balance mission and impact. Topics include social enterprise models, impact measurement, funding strategies, governance and compliance, and scaling solutions in politically sensitive contexts. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to conceptualize and pitch a social venture that integrates entrepreneurial rigor, legal accountability, and political awareness to achieve sustainable societal impact.
