CYS432 Penetration Testing

[3–0, 3 cr.]

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of ethical hacking and penetration testing. Students learn the principles, methodologies, and tools used to identify and assess security vulnerabilities in computer systems and networks. The course covers the basic phases of penetration testing, including reconnaissance, scanning, vulnerability assessment, gaining access, and reporting. Emphasis is placed on ethical and legal considerations, responsible disclosure, and defensive awareness. Hands-on labs provide students with practical experience using introductory penetration testing and vulnerability analysis tools in controlled environments.
