CSC244 Professional Computing Tools
[1–0, 1 cr.]
This lab introduces students to the practical tools that working computer scientists and software engineers use daily but rarely encounter in traditional courses. Students work in a Unix-like environment to navigate the command line, automate tasks with shell tools, and manage code with Git and GitHub including collaboration workflows. They also gain hands-on experience with AI coding assistants, LaTeX, interactive computing via Jupyter notebooks, and basic containerization with Docker for reproducible development environments. The course is structured as a guided lab in which students learn by doing, acquiring workflows they can immediately apply in their courses, projects, and internships.
Prerequisite: CSC243.
