COE548 Large Language Models

[3–0, 3 cr.]

Introduction to Large Language Models (LLMs): Foundations of natural language processing (NLP); deep learning and neural networks basics; transformer models and attention mechanisms; advancements in LLMs; application-specific tuning; practical exercises with off-the-shelf and open-source LLMs; addressing scalability and ethical considerations in AI. This course combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications, providing a comprehensive overview of current LLM technologies and their impact.

Prerequisites: (COE211 Computer Programming or COE212 Engineering Programming or CSC243 Introduction to Object-Oriented Programming or BIF243 Introduction to Object-Oriented Programming or ITM201 Computer Programming) and fourth-year standing.
