CCA400 Advocacy and Cultural and Structural Humility

This co-curricular course builds on foundational self-awareness by engaging second-year professional pharmacy students in activities that promote patient advocacy and the development of cultural and structural humility. Students participate in experiences that enhance understanding of social determinants of health, health disparities, and the role of pharmacists in advancing equitable care. Emphasis is placed on developing respectful, inclusive attitudes and the ability to navigate diverse patient populations and healthcare systems. Through reflective exercises and portfolio updates, students critically examine their biases, assumptions, and responsibilities as advocates for patients and communities. Activities occur outside the classroom and require sustained engagement to achieve competency. Completion of required activities and reflective documentation is mandatory for progression. This is a non-credit course graded on a P/NP basis.
