ART336 Art in Lebanon since 1900

[3–0, 3 cr.]

This course surveys Modern and contemporary artistic production in Lebanon from the turn of the 20th century until today. It investigates the development of art in Lebanon amongst changing cultural, social, and political contexts. Special attention will be given to historical developments that are relevant to practices in the region, including notions of identity and the problematic relationship between modernity and local traditions.

Prerequisite: ENG102 Academic English II
