TVF421 Documentary Film

[1–2, 3 cr.]

This course focuses on nonfiction narrative films. Students will view and engage with a variety of documentary forms by analyzing their formal characteristics, the ideas and objectives of the filmmakers who create them, and their reception by scholars. Through critical analysis and hands-on experience, students are expected to grapple with the art of documentary production as well. The course examines the techniques and conceptualizations of established and self-made directors. Production assignments explore documentary forms and techniques.
