MSL856 International Intellectual Property

[3–0, 3 cr.]

This course focuses on international treaties as they relate to the protection of trademarks and copyrights. These treaties include the Paris Convention, the Berne Conventions, WTO TRIPs, NAFTA and the EC Harmonization Directives and Trademarks. It introduces students to the international aspects of intellectual property and patent laws. Attention will be given to general principles of comparative and international law (e.g. territoriality) and specific laws related to obtaining and enforcing intellectual property rights in foreign countries.
