Minor in Visual Arts

Overview

Offered only to SArD students who already have basic fine arts courses integrated in their core program requirements this minor offers students deeper exposure to the visual arts  and the possibility to expand their art skills and techniques, and to further develop creativity, helping them to approach their principal disciplines from wider creative angles.

Mission

The mission of the Minor in Visual Arts is to help students to further develop as leading creative artists and thinkers in studio arts, to acquire greater professional skill, and to supply them with a framework of applied theory.

Objectives

The purpose of the Minor in Visual Arts is to:

  1. Provide an environment in which students can engage in creative activities and develop an aesthetic awareness;
  2. Provide students with the technical skills and knowledge of the use of materials and technologies in drawing, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, multimedia, photography and computer art, as professional artists;
  3. Develop various artistic methods and diverse approaches to problem solving with analytical and developmental tools;
  4. Pave the way for further studies in studio art, art theory, and/or art education; and
  5. Associate fine art programs to other related disciplines and practices, and cultural activities.

Outcomes

Students will acquire the following skills:

  1. Creative, visual and critical thinking;
  2. Technical realization and visual communication;
  3. The ability to create and develop their own artistic production; and
  4. A greater understanding of inter-relational spatial organization and properties.

Minor Requirements

A total of 18 credits are required to complete the minor, based on:

Mandatory Courses 12 credits
