Minor in Visual Arts

Overview

The Minor in Visual Arts is offered only to School of Architecture and Design students who already have basic fine arts courses integrated in their core program requirements. The program presents students with a deeper exposure to the visual arts and the possibility to expand their art skills and techniques to further develop creativity, all in the interest of helping them approach their principal disciplines from wider creative angles.

Mission

The mission of the Minor in Visual Arts is to furnish students with a framework of applied theory for their development as leading creative artists and thinkers in studio arts, and ultimately as more skilled professionals.

Program Objectives

The Minor in Visual Arts aims to

  1. provide an environment in which students can engage in creative activities and develop an aesthetic awareness,
  2. provide students with the technical skills and knowledge of the use of materials and technologies in drawing, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, multimedia, photography and computer art, as professional artists,
  3. develop various artistic methods and diverse approaches to problem solving with analytical and developmental tools,
  4. pave the way for further studies in studio art, art theory, and/or art education, and
  5. associate fine art programs to other related disciplines and practices, and cultural activities.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Minor in Visual Arts, students will acquire

  1. creative, visual and critical thinking skills,
  2. technical realization and visual communication,
  3. the ability to create and develop their own artistic production, and
  4. a greater understanding of inter-relational spatial organization and properties.

Curriculum

A total of 18 credits, as per the following, are required to complete the Minor in Visual Arts:
